Be a guest who respects the place

Being an ecotourism company, Traveloffbeat strictly follows the concept of sustainable tourism and encourage all our clients and companions to be a responsible traveller. Before we move into how to be a responsible traveller, let’s understand what sustainable tourism means. Sustainable tourism is the concept of visiting a place as a tourist and leaving a positive impact on the environment, economy, and society of that place. This way, even with the extensive rise in tourism, we can not only preserve the environment, but we can also avoid leaving a negative influence on the socio-cultural mindset of the people in various remote and underdeveloped areas.

Here are a few points we request you to follow when you travel with us.

  • Have the right expectation. When you are visiting offbeats and staying in homestays, remember that there may not always be luxurious and exclusive arrangements. In some cases, you may need to adjust with comforts and stick to basic needs.
  • Do not expect room service facilities as homestays may not have dedicated room service staff because in homestays, usually, the homestay owner and his/her family take care of their guests. In case, you are skipping a meal or eating late or earlier, or if you have any food preferences or food allergies, inform your host beforehand.
  • Adhere to house rules and respect privacy. When you are visiting homestays, remember that you are sharing stay and food with the house owner and his family. It is your ethical duty to be respectful of the family’s house rules and any other constraints they may have. In case you are not comfortable with any such rules, have a peaceful and respectable conversation with the host.
  • Never get involved in any activity which can cause trouble to your host.
  • Use resources sensibly. When you are using the amenities provided in the homestay, use them properly and leave them in working condition. While using water, electricity, fuel, or other resources, don’t waste them. Never keep your garbage cluttered or intentionally soil the environment.
  • Minimize your waste and footprints. Avoid things that can negatively impact the environment.
  • Shop locally and bargain responsibly with local vendors.
  • Never encourage begging and never distribute sweets, money, or expensive gifts to locals and especially children.
  • Never harm the wildlife.
  • Always ask for permission before taking a picture and never trespass sacred places or restricted areas without proper permission.
  • Be respectful to local cultures. Never involve in arguments and show harsh or violent behaviour and speech.
  • Always educate your friends and companions to be responsible travellers and always choose sustainable tourism companies for your holidays and tour planning.
